How She Started Yoga

In recent years, as interest in health and mental well-being has grown, yoga has become a familiar practice for many people. This time, we spoke with Chiaki Sato, a popular yoga instructor with five years of teaching experience. She shared her story, from how she first discovered yoga to what she values most in her teaching.

Sato began practicing yoga when she was a university student. At first, she joined a class simply to improve her lack of exercise. What started as a casual visit to a yoga lesson soon became something much more meaningful. As she synchronized her breathing with her body’s movements, she felt a sense of calm and balance, which gradually drew her deeper into the world of yoga.

“Many people think yoga is only about becoming more flexible,” she says. “But it’s much more than that. By focusing on your breathing, you create a moment to connect with your inner self.”


Her Work as a Yoga Instructor

Inspired by the benefits she experienced, Sato decided to obtain her yoga instructor certification after graduating from university. Today, she teaches at yoga studios while also offering online classes and participating in various wellness events.

Her classes are designed to be welcoming and comfortable, especially for beginners who may feel nervous about trying yoga for the first time.


What She Values in Her Lessons

One of the most important things Sato emphasizes in her classes is not pushing yourself too hard. According to her, yoga is not about competing over who can perform the most advanced poses. Instead, it is about listening to your body.

“It’s completely okay if you can’t do every pose,” she explains. “What matters most is paying attention to your body and treating yourself with kindness based on how you feel that day.”


Bringing Yoga into Everyday Life

Recently, many people have been struggling with shoulder stiffness from desk work and poor posture caused by excessive smartphone use. Because of this, Sato incorporates simple stretches into her lessons that can easily be practiced in daily life.

She often introduces breathing exercises and gentle stretches that don’t require a yoga mat. Many of her students appreciate this approach, saying it makes yoga easier to continue at home.


A Message for Beginners

Finally, we asked Sato for a message to people who are thinking about starting yoga.

“Yoga can be practiced by anyone, regardless of age or physical ability,” she says. “Don’t overthink it—just start with a deep breath. I hope people can enjoy the time they spend taking care of their bodies and minds.”

In the midst of busy everyday life, creating time to reconnect with yourself can make a meaningful difference. Through yoga, Sato hopes to help more people find balance, relaxation, and a little more comfort in their daily lives.
